Brent Matthew

Meet Brent Matthew

I started my financial services career with Morgan Stanley in the year 2000. As an associate financial advisor with the top corporate services team of the firm, my role encompassed supporting high net worth wealth managers with the acquisition, retention and relationship management of their vast global client base primarily located in Silicon Valley.

In 2002, I took a pioneering role in the financial services industry in Newport Beach, California when traditional retail banking institutions began to merge with Wall Street investment management firms. While at Wells Fargo Investments, my responsibilities included comprehensive financial needs analysis, investment research and portfolio construction through combining traditional banking products with investment management for private clients.

In 2007, I became the senior vice president of JD Mellberg Financial; and would later maintain a dual-role as the managing director of an SEC-registered investment advisory firm. As a key first employee of these firms, I played a primary and very integral role in the significant growth of each company.

As the founder & president of Scottsdale Wealth Advisory LLC, my past experience is in researching, designing and integrating risk management by way of insurance solutions and global market investment management.

I hold a Life & Health Insurance License and I am registered as an investment advisor representative in the State of Arizona, California and Texas. I am also currently enrolled in the College for Financial Planning, and working toward obtaining my Chartered Retirement Planning Counselor (CRPC) professional designation.

A Unique Perspective

I want to take a minute to share with you a little about my family story. My older brother Brian and I were raised in Tucson, Arizona, by a hard-working single mother. She worked days, nights, and often weekends to provide just enough for us as a family to get by. During my childhood I was very aware that my mother put her interests, no matter how small or how big, ahead of her own. Little did I know how powerful an impact this lesson would have on me later in life. The path I chose in becoming a financial advisor, is a transcension of that same lesson I unknowingly learned growing up: that is as a fiduciary in the financial services field, putting my clients’ interests, no matter how small or how big, ahead of my own.

What I Believe

Scottsdale Wealth Advisory was founded on the idea that what is good for the client is good for the company. Our goal is to stand out in the crowd by providing high-level communication while focusing on client education in an effort to make you a well-informed investor. Together, we can co-create a financial roadmap designed to achieve your personal goals. My team and I are here to take you through our Portfolio Analysis Review (PAR) process which is the foundation to developing a financial plan that is centered on you and your aspirations.

I take pride in the fact my clients view me as their “own personal family CFO.” After nearly two decades of commitment to financial services, in an ever-changing global marketplace in which financial needs and the suitable options to meet investor objectives are rapidly evolving, I believe that there is only one constant in this business, and that is if I put my clients’ interest ahead of my own, and do the right thing by them, success will continue to follow. Because at the end of each day, after all is said and done, my success as a financial advisor will be measured by the success of my clients.

Why Am I Sharing This With You?

If you are reading this, you’re likely searching for and considering a new financial professional to help you understand your options and implement a plan to protect and manage your financial security. If you’ve gone online in an attempt to learn more about what investment options are available to you, you’ve likely uncovered many differing opinions on what you should or shouldn’t do with your money. As a result, you are more confused than ever! Because there are few clear, precise and reputable sources for unbiased information in financial services, it’s important to know the people behind the company name or logo. It’s important to know what they believe (OUR MISSION), and who they are (A UNIQUE PERSPECTIVE). It’s important to know these things, because your lifetime savings and future financial security are on the line. No matter how much money you have, it’s always at risk if it’s not well positioned and protected. We understand the implications of not planning ahead or having the discipline to follow through.

There are ways to create a successful financial future, and it starts with the very people who will put your interests ahead of their own, that have the experience, knowledge, and resources to help guide you through what you want most: a long and enjoyable retirement.

“Most people don’t plan to fail, they fail to plan” – John J. Beckley (1925)

What We Do

We are wealth managers, and we help people successfully navigate the challenging and rapidly-evolving financial markets so that they can enjoy the benefits of life leading up and into retirement. We are a full-service financial planning firm, offering the gamut from financial education to wealth management by way of portfolio analysis and optimization, tax reduction strategies, asset protection, and estate preservation.

As fiduciaries, we work for you. We custody clients’ assets at TD Ameritrade. Think of us as your own personal family CFO. Through TD Ameritrade, we will be able to help manage your money in a manner that is aligned with your goals. We will not earn commissions from the assets we manage; we are simply paid a flat fee based on those assets we manage. Your success is our success.

At Scottsdale Wealth Advisory LLC, we value timely and personalized communication. As a client, you will always have a dedicated point of contact providing personalized attention. We will be available to meet with you on a regular basis, and if you have questions, just call. We will make sure your questions are answered promptly.

One of the valuable tools we offer to our clients is an on-demand reporting program called Generational Vault. This program provides an online “dashboard” to your finances allowing you to bring together all your financial accounts into one convenient user interface. You will be able to view all your financial accounts, banking, and credit card information in one convenient location. Generational Vault will provide you with online access to all your statements and the ability to quickly create and print reports and statements integrating all aspects of your finances. There will be no more need for remembering multiple websites and logins and having to go from site-to-site to piece your financial life together. This service is optional, but it is provided free to all our clients. It’s a perfect complement to our comprehensive and transparent approach to investing.

Our Investment Advisory Approach

We customize each client’s portfolio to meet his or her specific investment objectives. We believe in portfolio diversification as an important driver of achieving long-term investment objectives and to reduce portfolio risk. Our portfolio management approach is a dynamic process as we continuously evaluate new investment opportunities for our clients. We have a preference for high-conviction, focused investment strategies for our clients seeking long-term growth of capital. We believe that patience in investing adds considerable value. We are mindful of how taxes and investment costs impact the compounding of investment returns. We value our fiduciary responsibility to our clients. We believe in transparency in our business practices and alignment of interests with our clients. Diversification and asset allocation does not assure or guarantee better performance and cannot eliminate the risk of investment loss.

How Can We Help You?

We offer a Portfolio Analysis Review (PAR) that provides you with the opportunity to learn, ask questions, and get a second opinion on your investments and finances. The same way that a cardiologist will stress test your heart, we will stress test your portfolio.

At no charge, I can prepare the following reports for you:

Investment Risk Analysis:
We will review your existing investments to determine the types and level of financial risks to which you are currently exposed. We will point out areas of concern and offer you our ideas on how to fix those problems.

Social Security Maximization Report:
Because there are thousands of different ways in which you can file for your Social Security benefits, we will create a personalized report specific to your credits earned that will give you specific instructions in how and when to file, and what the optimized strategy for your monthly benefits will be over a more probable life expectancy.

Tax Review and Analysis:
We will look for ways that may be available to help you reduce your tax obligations, both current and future.

Estate Transition Plan Review:
We will review your current estate plan and provide you with recommendations that may help to preserve your estate for the benefit of your heirs. This review will show you how to create a financial legacy that will help keep your personal values intact when you are gone while reducing/minimizing any taxes that your heirs may have to pay.

Complimentary Financial Plan:
The end result of our meetings will be a written financial plan that addresses your particular concerns and goals. The plan will include a thorough analysis of your current investments and any suggested changes. It will also include a comprehensive income analysis, suggested allocations, and options that are available for you to improve your current investments.

Retirement planning isn’t about aggressive money making ideas, it’s about establishing and committing to goals and taking the time to create a safe and secure financial plan. Your goals are the driving force behind the financial guidance our firm offers. Our job is to assist you in making well-informed decisions so that you can feel confident in your retirement strategy.
